Chapter 24
Saralyn
When he asked me to marry him, I teared up as I choked out the answer. I wanted to say, âof course Iâll marry youâ, but when he said those beautiful words to me, my throat closed up and I could barely get out the word yes.
Through my tears, I saw him jump up to his feet and before I could manage to take my next breath, he swallowed me up in his arms so tight I could barely breathe. As I tried to catch my breath, I grunted and he said that he was sorry. As he loosened his arms, I mumbled that it was okay. He scooped me up into his arms, and laid me back on the bed. And then he climbed in beside me.
I curled up into him, so there was not even a hairsbreadth between us, and to my surprise, I let the memory of Philip go. But I couldnât release Sara Grace yet, I just couldnât do it. I mourned the loss of her once more. Knowing I would never see my daughter again, I buried my face into his chest and cried.
They werenât all tears of sadness though; some tears of joy fell from my eyes as well. He pulled me closer as he asked me, âBaby, whatâs wrong?â
âNothing.â I told him. âThese are tears of joy.â I knew it was a half lie, but hopefully he did not. I didnât want to ruin this happy occasion, for it was a happy one until I fell asleep. Thatâs when the ghost of my late husband Philip invaded my dreams.
He, at first looked as though I had remembered him. Kind of lean, but had the biceps of a soldier. But the way he was staring at me, unnerved me.
âWhy are you staring at me like I just betrayed you?â
He said not a word at first, but began to change. He became all haggard looking. I backed away as he reached out for me. As he saw that he snarled, âBecause you did.â
I shook my head, âNo, youâre dead. Youâve been dead for two years now.â I replied and as I backed away from him even more, he tilted his head to one side like he used to.
He faded back to the way I remembered him. âWhy are you afraid of me? I mean you no harm. Only him, the one who dares to take you away from me.â As he spoke, his form returned to that haggard form. The form that someone would mistake him for a zombie.
âPhilip, youâre dead. Youâre a dead human. Thereâs nothing you can do to us and I didnât betray you though you seem to think I did. Goodbye Philip. Rest in peace and take care of Sarah Grace.â
He faded back to his true form as he reached out for me. âDonât go Saralyn!â His voice faded and echoed as I awoke, crying and curling more so in the Elronâs arms.
He tightened his arms around me. âWhatâs wrong,
